Terri Green

Title : A Soul Dedication
Release Date : November 1, 2008
Format : Digital Download

Enjoy life! Travel the world at large. Music for the soul.”
This could describe Tags Terris first album.
Terri Green’s positive nature, her lively temperament are being felt in all songs. So it goes in the titles mostly partnership and love. Terri Green is a true creative artist, as well as their full size counterparts from the “good old days”. All original title comes from her pen. The melodies to their songs they have written themselves. As a songwriter, she was already on Lutrica McNeal and Chris Norman.

Now she has one year to go work on her own solo album behind him and is pleased with her music and her band finally on stage. With its carrying contralto she takes the listener into a beautiful soundscape. From danceable groove, over-suspicious catchy songs to the emotional ballad us Terri Green gives her songs a varied debut album.

The album was produced in New York, LA, Hamburg, Copenhagen and Brisbane.

Tell me what you want (t. Bjerre / t. Abrolat)
Begins with the chorus and with the onset of the rhythm section is clear to us where the journey: back in the 80s as George Benson, Quincy Jones, Soul 2 Soul and were the Blow Monkeys in the charts. Crisp horns, funky guitars, soaring strings melody, a melody and a sax solo, which remain in the ear build on this tradition.

Give me one more chance (t Bjerre / t. Abrolat)
From the first chord to the chanting and Terri Green, we are invited on a trip to the good old days of soul music as the orchestra Love Unlimited Orchestra by Barry White or Donald Byrd Hardbob Dance Band. Repeatedly heard the refrain, “give me one more chance” and dissolves at the end in an Adlib to dance and large string ensemble. The guitars in the style of James Taylor take over and the reprise one last time …

Everything I do (t. Bjerre / t. Abrolat)
This is accompanied by a groovy bass Terris floating melody to chorus. And this makes us believe the words: Everything I do is real good mood. By the end there will be more and the track swings to Terris “I steal a star for you tonight.”

It’s Your Love (A. Danish, t. Bjerre, t. Abrolat)
A beautiful winged song that reminds Intstrumentierung great, lots of wood and sheet metal and a great sax solo at the time of Earth Wind and Fire and The Emotions. Terri Green’s voice is really smoky and leads towards the end in a typical Motown turnaround.

You and me (t. Bjerre / t. Abrolat)
The track is also instrumented large. With Terri’s You and me can make his treasure a true joy. The song is grooved, a great mix of old and new sound Kompostionskunst. The interplay of voice and band really fits the title: You and me a partnership for life.

Forever You (t. Bjerre / t. Abrolat)
With the gentle sound leaned against Burt Bacharach and Dionne Warwick Terris wonderful intimate and melancholic voice floats over the harmonies. Here we realize that Terri not only has a great voice, but has a wide distinctive Old. Yes a partially rapt hypnotic state is achieved. Today that is probably easy listening. Earlier it was a lifestyle.

Should have seen it coming (t. Bjerre / sh dorff)
Together with the great Broadway composer Steven Dorff Terri wrote this item about life as a couple. In the style of Whitney Houston ballad sings Terri about the partnership and the long time zuzweit. Her voice carries the melody on the open harmonies and great song structure. A gospel-like Fine leaves a whow …

On the radio (G. Moroder, D. Summer) – new recording
Donna Summer as the Georgio Moroder track was recorded Terri still a little girl. It was for a long time, her absolute favorite song. Your new version of on the radio is a tribute and simultaneously pays homage to Terri’s second career. As Terri B. she is a respected house and dance music artist. Thus, the “Remix” by on the radio is also very danceable.

So far away (t. Bjerre / j. Mueller)
Even the acoustic soul is not missing on the album. So far away is kept very reduced and deposited only with an economical string melody. Otherwise, there are electric piano, and saxophone Rhytmuscombo. A little Sade? Why not.

MUSICIANS:

TERRI GREEN (vocals)
Torsten Abrolat (Keys)
JOACHIM MUELLER (Keys)
MIKE SEVERSON (Guitars)

Sylvan DVD

Title : 10th Anniversary 1998-2008 The Show
Release Date : September 1, 2008
Format : DVD

The 80 minutes long show begins shortly before the start of the concert with a closed curtain and already eagerly applauding fans. Volker’s synth pads in the intro already point out that it is already getting ready to go. Very challenging images (eg Sylvan logo and “Posthumous Silence” cover or a single tree in the sunset) are projected on the curtain still closed and it follows the intro “Eternity Ends”. Once the piano melody of “Bequest Of Tears” is heard, Volker Söhl is illuminated by spotlights and thus incorporated into the scene of the still closed curtain. That looks really impressive, as he stands on one side and the leafless tree on the other side.

Once Marco’s uses delicate singing, he is also illuminated and appears in the melancholy scene. To Stefanie Richter plays cello (she has also worked on the album). Although the landscape disappears, the curtain will also remain closed and so are Volker, Marco and Stefanie only dimly visible through the curtain. When listening to the end of “Bequest Of Tears” Sebastian’s distinctive bass, seems only the silhouette of GUIDO BUNGENSTOCK through the now brightly lit curtain. This is done optically really great. With seamless transition to “In Chains”, the curtain falls and the band starts its amazing gig with a light show that is the music finally meet. While in previous performances, the lighting effects were good, but in this show they put on it again a nasty shock.

Besides drummer Matthias Harder, who’s back for very sophisticated rhythm sequences are on the electric guitar, Jan Petersen, who officially since 2007 belongs to the band and to see Guido Bungenstock that than by Kay Söhl’s exit until autumn 2007 with her live concerts guitarist has helped out. Furthermore, the band has yet to Stephanie Hundertmark, Petra Schechter and Miriam Schell (whom this name sounds familiar, it’s musical partner of Matthias Harder to Rain For A Day) added brought three backup singers who remain true vocal in the background, the sound but still give a little more volume and Marco support.

In parts, the beautiful light show is supported also by films that run in the background on a large screen. But this concert recording, which gives the concept album “Posthumous Silence” finally the proper frame is worth buying this DVD. The only drawback, I would have all the other pieces of the live concert (another 76 minutes), which are available on the double CD to “Leaving Backstage”, as desired concert recording on the DVD. One can from the guys namely not have enough!

Sylvan but still offer a range of extras with 96 minutes playing time, it has really come into himself and for the fans really have much to offer. Firstly, because the 19 minute version of “Artificial Paradise”, in which the musicians celebrate the piece really is (Goosebumps guaranteed).

The complete concert is further provided with comments from Matthias, Sebastian, Marco, Jan and Volker. Something like this is really only knows of films. Great that a German band decides to talk to her concert a comment. The audience learns as much about the music, the musicians and the show. One can also can show the German lyrics of the songs.

As an added bonus, there is next to a slideshow, and extensive interviews with the musicians (the outtakes here with a lot of humor has been compiled) and three features that show us an insight into the music production and the creation of the show. Funny thing is that the makers come out (or is it due to the musicians) as fans of American action series “24″, because the feature “34 Days” is built in the style of the action series. This is reflected among others in the following words, the rhythmic / digital noise the passing seconds, and the split screens. And when viewing this feature you have the feeling to be directly been there. This bonus material is really at its best and makes the purchase of the DVD so indispensable.

I had already the opportunity to learn the guys personally (for concerts and during an interview), these likeable musicians come just as naturally as they are, over on the DVD.

Sylvan is the DVD “Posthumous Silence – The Show” managed a true masterpiece, the hide must before any major production, but rather the major company’s big acts and the fear of teaching. The guys did not let perfectionism only exercise, but the part with so much love and passion created that this feeling also transfers to the audience. For me, this Hammer DVD a must and I can only hope that does not wait another 10 years before there is another DVD of this, one of the best prog bands in Germany.

Conclusion: Highly recommended!

Title : Live
Release Date : September 15, 2006
Format : CD

The first live album as an EP version of GUIDO BUNGENSTOCK‘s Band TAURUS shows the incredible joy of playing in this formation. Even the opening song “The Pump” (Jeff Beck, Tony Hymas) becomes evident, where the musical journey goes: Rocking melodic guitar sounds with plenty of room for improvisation and supported by a pulsating rhythm section. Already in his sweeping intro of his beautiful ballad “Thinking Of You” GUIDO BUNGENSTOCK demonstrates his fine ear for soulful melody, Goosebumps guaranteed! In “Redhouse” (Jimi Hendrix), he shows his bluesy side while MIKEL ALLEN shines with his warm soulful voice in this song. And also at the second Blues “Blues for Jeff” GUIDO BUNGENSTOCK pulls out all rock register and AXEL MEYER’s Rhodes piano solo is a hilight for every jazz listener. Especially noteworthy is JEROME LELLOUCHE’s groovy playing and his punchy drum sound throughout the album. The last track on this EP “Space Me” (recorded in his home studio) is a bonus track and a surprising mix of straightforward melody accompanied by complex chord progressions.

An absolute listening experience!

Title : Posthumous Silence
Release Date : September 1, 2006
Format : Digital Download

The Artrock formation from Hamburg SYLVAN has in recent years at scene connoisseurs with albums like “Encounters”, “Artificial Paradise” and “X-Rayed” earned an outstanding reputation. Originally started as a flawless Neoprogband with an exaggerated Marillion-list – as proof just listen once the very mixed picture debut in “Deliverance” – developed the five musicians one by one their own style completely. With classic neo prog band’s music has to do anything today. I prefer the term “new art rock”. Similar to Riverside SYLVAN process in their music, the different ingredients: In addition to symphonic prog and metal components are also very traditional and alternative-rock moments in the songs of the band. So SYLVAN have mixed a unique style cocktail that is above all held together by the distinctive voice Marco Glühmanns. He presses the tape with his vocals on their complete autonomy. With the current album “Posthumous Silence” we now have the first concept album of the band’s history. On their fifth album, the boys now have a total of fifteen tracks in telling a seventy-minute story. Now, it is true that many prog bands with the intent to record a concept album, to tend Überambitionierung. As we stand at SYLVAN?

First, there is need to be told that “Posthumous Silence” continues from the previous “X-Rayed” imported style. So if you liked this work is to make the new album is absolutely nothing wrong. It is therefore also the first album on which SYLVAN offer us at least musically, nothing fundamentally new. Rather, one has in particular focused on the lyrical concept and made minor improvements to the Sound. Thus we find on “Posthumous Silence” for the first time a real choir and a real cello. These two new ingredients to complement the existing sound excellent, bring additional depth into the material. In particular, the cello is some beautiful accents. Listeners who SYLVAN know yet, one can not readily explain what they expect here. However, I will attempt to me closer to the musical world of the Hamburg rudimentary. The band’s sound is initially very complex, yet always catchy. Soulful, almost classical passages that are primarily driven by the beautiful piano by Volker Söhl stand, to atmospheric, intimate moments that are usually formed by quiet guitar licks Kay Söhl. But there are also many songs that have a harder, more raw and basic orientation of sound was very reminiscent of alternative rock. As is typical for prog missing, of course, not the detailed instrumental departures. Are fleet, driving keyboard solos are just as gorgeous, beautiful spherical guitar solos that are in fact probably the only remnant from the time the neo prog band. Occasionally you will also slightly psychedelic. On the new album can be found also for the first time amplified voice samples that support the story and atmosphere of the album. The real showpiece of the band is singer Marco Glühmann, who by his always tremendously emotional vocals that constantly jumps between grief, hope and violent rages back and forth missed the band a totally unique sound. It’s his voice, his tone, which makes up for me in the first place SYLVAN. Overall, the sound of the band is very modern, this really is not “progressive”, that made progressive music.

The art is now, of course, put together all the above factors into a meaningful, compelling whole. And in the band is very good! Particular “Posthumous Silence”, the various elements and styles give each other hand, since this basically is a continuous piece of music. In the seventy minutes every musical motifs are revived, produced cross-references in the songs with each other to strengthen the concept of character in addition. Maintain the musical tension over such a long period and incorporate upright no boring or unnecessary passages is very difficult, but the five hamburgers to make it!

The lyrics that are completely out of Marco Glühmann are, fortunately, failed open to interpretation. Although one can understand the action easily, yet remain in many beautiful moments leeway that invite speculation. The lyrics are wonderful and insightful metaphor, seem somewhat elegant. Blends perfectly with the emotional character of the music. About the story itself is not too much can be revealed: It’s about an old man whose daughter has recently committed suicide because she is no longer coped with their lives and the world. Her father sits dejected and tieftrauernd in a dark room and reads the only legacy of his daughter. Her diary that she had actually written just for him. Although the lyrics do not really much action takes place, but a whole lot of thought to be found again. The thoughts of the daughter are certainly anything but contrived by the nose, I think there are some young people who have similar problems with their lives, or the questions that deal with the daughter. In reading the lyrics and listening to the accompanying music will be certainly very made to think about our society and the modern world. Every person who is interested in this subject matter, this album is recommended that reason alone.

What “Posthumous Silence” but ultimately gives the note that is down there is, firstly, the fact that it received text and music, so tightly woven unit, as long gone – since Marillion “Brave” I know of no known album that story, atmosphere and music combines so perfectly. Secondly, the listener who gets involved in the album, necessarily addressed on an emotional level. You can not just listen to this music without having to worry. The lyrics, the vocals, the guitar solos – all that really pulls the listener that he experienced during the entire playing time at first hand the, experience what the protagonists of the story and feel. To write music that is so close and so caught the listener takes is a very great achievement. It must also be remembered that SYLVAN here put everything alone on the legs. The production of drummer Matthias Harder is excellent: it is clear, yet dynamic, powerful and extremely dense. Each instrument can be tracked easily at any time, so that the bass lines of Sebastian Harnack not perish. Such beautiful bass work can be heard but not all days! Since the 24-page (!) Booklet was designed in-house and also still looks absolutely fantastic, “Posthumous Silence” is actually a pretty perfect work. An album that the term “work” actually earned.

Since “Encounters” SYLVAN are for me at the top of the German progressive rock movement on the road. With “Posthumous Silence” they have now outdone themselves. I imagine seriously the question of how the band wants to make such a work of art yet. Here fans of the band actually already know what’s next: After this prog is full operation this year with “Presets” SYLVAN appear one more album. With this you will then dare to attack on the charts and on the radio. It will contain more compact songs and let the prog rock on the left. Wait and see, then, what’s coming at us. In any case, the guys have done a lot.

Who wants to hear really fresh art rock who does not shrink from that music is not only fun, but also emotionally entrains that this masterpiece should be careful to make the record shelves. I have long wondered if I should really do it, but it’s time. In addition to “The Art Of Navigating By The Stars” by SIEGES EVEN “Posthumous Silence” now comes the second album, which gets full marks from me. Even though the year is still young, I do not think this year will still appear many discs SYLVAN disincentive to put my personal album of the year. Fantastic!

Catch The Rainbow

Title : A Tribute To Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
Release Date : July 1, 1999
Format : CD

Rainbow was arguably more respected and popular in Europe and Japan than in the United States, and that’s a shame. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore will always be associated with the groundbreaking Deep Purple — and justifiably so — but much of Rainbow’s music is just as impressive. Germany embraced Rainbow, so it’s no surprise that the country’s hard rock musicians cite the band as a major influence. Helloween drummer Uli Kusch and Gamma Ray guitarist Henjo Richter formed the tribute band Catch the Rainbow in 1996, and soon other musicians joined this confederation.

Catch the Rainbow’s 11-song covers album, A Tribute to Rainbow, was released in 1999, and it features other members of Helloween and Gamma Ray as well as Grave Digger, Kingdom Come, Punch TV, Metalium, Brainstorm, Primal Fear, Rough Silk, Zed Yago, and Cue Ltd. The tracks cover Rainbow’s Ronnie James Dio, Graham Bonnet, and Joe Lynn Turner eras. Most of the songs don’t stray too far from the original arrangements, but they aren’t slavish imitations either. Guitarist GUIDO BUNGENSTOCK lays down thick, meaty parts on “Sixteenth Century Greensleeves.” The work of Kusch and guitarist Roland Grapow drives the mighty “Stargazer.”

GUIDO BUNGENSTOCK‘s jazz and blues-inflected guitar on the ethereal “Catch the Rainbow” is an inspired interpretation. An untamed, relentless version of “Spotlight Kid” is one of the finest cuts. “Man on the Silver Mountain” peaks with Bungenstock’s piercing, fluid guitar solo. Vocalist Henne Basse, who sings lead on most tracks, stands out on “Rainbow Eyes,” one of the most underrated songs in Rainbow’s canon. “Still I’m Sad” — a Yardbirds song long loved and often recorded by Blackmore — expands into an all-out jam. A Tribute to Rainbow is something Rainbow fans will certainly enjoy.
